LUXURY Hong Kong hotelier, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, is moving into Australia after inking a management contract for a new luxury hotel and branded residences to be developed in Melbourne.

Mandarin Oriental Melbourne, as it will be known, is expected to be built and opened by 2023. It joins other hotels hitting the Melbourne and surrounds region in coming years including Marriott International’s W hotel expected in 2020 and recent openings of Jackalope in the Mornington Peninsula and Four Points By Sheraton in the Docklands.

Part of a mixed-use 185m tower project in Collins Street, the new hotel will feature 196 rooms and suites along with 148 “Residences at Mandarin Oriental” located on the upper levels. The project is being developed by Melbourne property developer Landream.

The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant and a bar with a landscaped roof terrace. There will also be meeting spaces and an executive club lounge. A Spa at Mandarin Oriental will offer the Group’s well known wellness, relaxation and beauty facilities, while further leisure options include a comprehensive fitness centre and an indoor swimming pool.

Mandarin Oriental’s CEO James Riley says the company is thrilled to open its first Australian property.

“The hotel will set a new standard for luxury service in the city and will offer a preferred choice to travellers and potential homeowners who desire the finest accommodation.”

Kevin Li, managing director of Landream, said: “Mandarin Oriental will set a new standard for luxury service in the city and will offer a preferred choice to travellers and potential homeowners who desire the finest accommodation.”

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the award-winning owner and operator of some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, resorts and residences. Having grown from its Asian roots into a global brand, the Group now operates 29 hotels and eight residences in 19 countries and territories.
