Be part of the art, design, curiosities and a dash of the absurd at QT Museum Wellington where your art can be featured in their rooms

Your art, their rooms

CALLING all culturephiles, artists and creatives – QT Museum Wellington wants your art in their new rooms.

QT Museum Wellington is all about the New Zealand art scene and is throwing a challenge to the creative community; to create in-room artworks for the wall space behind the bed heads of 9 new guest rooms, including an optional 6 private balcony walls. Be it illustrative, graffiti, or abstract art – the space is yours.

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of exploring, QT Museum Wellington’s lobby is home to New Zealand’s largest privately owned art collection, with art and design at the heart of the hotel’s identity. Your artwork could be part of a collection boasting works by Dick Frizzell, Seraphine Pick, Liz Maw and BMD to namedrop a few.

QT Museum a cultural playground

“QT Museum Wellington is a cultural playground built on a wonderfully eccentric, largely national, art collection,” says General Manager of QT Museum Wellington Garth Solly. “We are excited to work with creatives to bring to life a fusion of eclectic and eccentric art to awe and amaze local and international guests during their stay.

“The hotel has a philosophy that thrives on actively supporting the local creative scene, which is why we’re giving an opportunity for artists to be a part of our history.”

QT Museum Wellington is thrilled to have highly regarded art critic, writer, broadcaster and Wellingtonian, Mark Amery and notable street artist DSIDE, one half of former street art duo BMD, be a part of the expert judging panel.

DSIDE is in da house

Drawing on his extensive artistic skills and experience DSIDE has also made his mark in an existing hotel room, leading the charge for other artists, to inspire, engage and challenge the community to answer the call for submissions. Used to working on a multitude of canvases from abandoned buildings to human bodies, QT Museum Wellington is honoured to present a blank canvas for DSIDE’s first hotel room. DSIDE’s support reflects the essence of QT Museum Wellington and commitment to fostering Kiwi talent.

“The collection in its lobby represents its importance and depth of involvement in this countries Art realm, so I was honoured when asked to be involved,” says DSIDE. “This project is extending the collection into the bedroom so people can have a different encounter with them.”

QT Hotels & Resorts consistently challenges the status quo. This hotel is a cultural playground built on a wonderfully eccentric, largely national art collection and celebrates creativity for all that stay and play at QT Museum Wellington.

Submissions are open now until Friday, June 8, with the winning designs announced on Friday, 22 June. Winners will have 6-8 weeks to complete their masterpieces with the new rooms set to be unveiled in early September this year.
